VAPOR GLAZED ART POTTERY
The glaze process invoives multiple firings and 30 to 40 applications of glazes.
As the pots cool during the last firing Austin introduces metallic chlorides that instantly vaporize and swirl around creating the unprdeictable variations of iridescent colors. Only one pot can be fired at a time so each one is unique. The colors will never fade as some Raku pieces might do.
Austin is now experimenting with the effects of gold on the process.
